Adaptive Wheelchair program
Since 2012, OHANA has been developing adaptive wheelchair provisions and training programs in collaboration with Global Mobility USA. We have provided more than 500 custom-fitted wheelchairs for children and adults with disabilities across Indonesia. In addition, OHANA has also developed training programs for organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and local communities in wheelchair repairs and maintenance, as well as wheelchair assessment and fitting.
This program has been implemented in various regions, including Yogyakarta Province, Central Java (Magelang, Temanggung, Wonosobo, Semarang, Surakarta, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, Banyumas, Tegal), Sidoarjo (East Java), Makassar (South Sulawesi), and Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara).
We believe that training local communities and OPDs is essential to ensure high-quality assistive device services, particularly in providing custom-fitted wheelchairs tailored to individual needs. This training includes individual assessment, fitting, modification, as well as wheelchair repair and maintenance.
This training initiative provides valuable knowledge and skills to OPDs and local communities, bringing a significant impact on wheelchair users. The program not only helps reduce health risks and physical deformities but also enhances the quality of life for users in terms of mobility, independence, and social inclusion.
