Ohana Law Center
The Government of Indonesia ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (CRPD) through Law Number 19 of 2011. The convention aims to guarantee the human rights of persons with disabilities to participate in equally and living independently without discrimination and isolation. Every person with disability has equal rights and dignity as other citizens including access to justice, therefore OHANA initiated OHANA Law Center since 2022.
OHANA has been supported by Woman Fund’s Asia (WFA) to continue strengthening rights of women and girls with disabilities to eliminate all forms of violence in collaboration with PERADI Sleman Yogyakarta, a lawyer association. We formed a group of local community representatives who play an important role in advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and preventing and mitigating gender based violence against women and girls with disabilities. This group of community representatives is called paralegals. We trained paralegal candidates among women with disabilities and parents who have children with disabilities. The roles of paralegals are critical to support other women and girls with disabilities as victims of violence.
Furthermore, OHANA formed “OHANA Legal Center (OLC)” to support our trained paralegals in collaboration with PERADI Sleman to provide pro bono lawyers for women and girls with disabilities as victims of all forms of violence in Yogyakarta Province.
