Committee Recommendation

The Committee recommends that the State Party:

  • Implement specific measures to ensure the equality and participation of underrepresented groups of persons with disabilities, including deaf persons, persons with intellectual disabilities, persons with psychosocial disabilities, deaf-blind persons, and women with disabilities;

  • Ensure that polling stations, electoral and voting procedures, facilities, and online or printed electoral materials are accessible to all persons with disabilities;

  • Develop information and training for election officials to ensure an appropriate response to the access needs of persons with disabilities.

Update on implementing CRPD recommendations

2024
  • Many Polling Stations (TPS) are still inaccessible, (usually in pendopo [open-sided halls], or neighborhood halls which are tiered with slippery floors)

  • Polling Station officials often do not understand the tactile voting aids for visually impaired persons
